Christmas light supply for commercial buildings
Commercial holiday lighting is mostly long, straight runs: parapet edges, canopy fascias, storefront headers and the trees in the parking islands. The materials are the same C9 socket wire, LED C9 bulbs and mini strands used on houses, bought in larger quantities and mounted with hardware that suits block, metal and stucco. Every order ships the same day it's placed, shipping is free on all orders with and there are no added fees.
Outlining facades and parapets
Most retail buildings have a flat parapet with a cap or coping along the top. C9 socket wire runs along that edge, held by O-clips or all-in-one clips where there's a lip to grip, and by magnet clips where the coping or canopy is steel. Peaked entries and tower elements use ridge clips along the peak.
Choosing spacing for a building
Spacing is set by viewing distance. A storefront seen from the sidewalk reads well at 12 in. spacing. A building set back behind a parking field is usually lit at 15 in., and very long edges seen from the road can use 24 in. spacing socket wire, which halves the bulb and clip count compared with 12 in. on the same footage.
Kits or spools for long runs
C9 installation kits come in 250, 500, 1,000, 2,000 and 4,000 ft. sizes at 12 in. and 15 in. spacing, each with socket wire, LED C9 bulbs, plugs and clips. They suit a building that's being lit for the first time and needs one line item per elevation. Crews that light several buildings often buy 1,000 ft. socket spools and bulb cases separately and cut runs to each elevation on site.
Trees, columns and planters
Parking-island trees, entry columns and planters are wrapped with LED mini strands. Each strand carries 50 lights and connects end to end. A 24-strand case keeps every tree on a property in one color and one spacing, which matters more on a commercial site than at a house, because the trees are usually seen together in a row.
Power and timing
Commercial sites rarely have outdoor outlets where the lights need them. Plan each run back to a GFCI-protected circuit, use lamp cord with slide-on plugs to bridge from the outlet to the first socket, and keep each circuit's load within its rating. A photocell timer on each circuit turns the display on at dusk and off after the set hours, so separate buildings on one property light at the same time.
Ordering for a property
Measure each elevation separately and record the footage, the mounting surface and the nearest power source. That list sets the kit or spool size, the clip type for each edge and the number of plugs. Order the full property at once so every building gets bulbs from the same color temperature. Unused, unopened product can be returned within 30 days of delivery, and orders ship within the United States.

Scoping a storefront or retail center
A retail lighting scope is written elevation by elevation. Each building face gets its own line with four entries: the edges to light, the footage, the mounting surface and where power comes from. Once that sheet exists, the materials list, the clip mix and the circuit plan all come straight from it.
1. Walk the property and name each elevation
Label every face that will be lit (front, left end, right end, rear if it faces a road) and every separate structure: outparcels, pylon signs, a canopy over the walkway. On a strip center, the storefront fascia is usually one continuous edge, and the end caps and tower elements are separate runs because they change height.
2. Measure what gets outlined
- Parapet cap: the top edge of the building, the line seen from the road.
- Canopy fascia: the front edge of the covered walk, the line seen by shoppers.
- Towers and peaked entries: rakes and peaks measured separately; these take ridge clips.
- Columns and planters: counted, not measured, and wrapped with mini strands.
- Site trees: counted with their height, for mini strand wraps.
3. Record the surface
The surface decides the clip. Parapet caps with a metal lip and gutters take O-clips or all-in-one clips. Steel coping, metal canopies and sign cabinets take magnet clips, which run $1,545 for a 2,000-count case. Peaks take ridge clips. Stucco and block with no edge to grip need a different mounting plan; note those spots before ordering so they don't show up on install day.
4. Map power
Commercial buildings often have one exterior outlet per tenant or none on the roof. Note where each run will draw power, which circuit that outlet is on and how much lamp cord it takes to reach the first socket. LED C9 bulbs draw very little, so long runs fit on one circuit, but every run still needs a male plug at the power end and a female plug or cap at the far end.
Turning the scope into a materials list
Add the footage by spacing. Socket wire equals the footage plus a lead on each run. Bulbs equal the socket count: one per foot at 12 in., 0.8 per foot at 15 in., and 0.5 per foot at 24 in. Clips equal the socket count plus a few percent for corners and breakage. LED C9 bulbs come 500 to a case at $319, so a 2,000 ft. parapet at 15 in. spacing takes about 1,600 bulbs, a little over three cases.
For a first-year install, kits keep each elevation on one line item:
- 2,000 ft. at 15 in. spacing: about 1,600 bulbs, $3,761.96
- 4,000 ft. at 15 in. spacing: about 3,200 bulbs, $8,045.48
Crews that light the same center every year usually move to 1,000 ft. socket spools and bulb cases, cut once to each elevation and labeled so the runs go back up in the same place next season.
Trees and columns
Count the trees in the parking islands and note their height. A medium wrap takes about 100 mini lights per foot of height, or two 50-light strands per foot. A 24-strand case of 6 in. LED minis is $260, enough for about 12 ft. of tree at that density. Columns take about one strand per 3 ft. of height for a spiral wrap. Order the trees for the whole property in one color temperature so the row reads evenly.
Timing a multi-building property
Put a photocell timer on each circuit ($11 each, or $43 for a case of 4) and set the same on-hours on every one. The photocells switch on at dusk, so the storefront fascia, the outparcels and the tree row all light together, and nobody has to visit the site to turn the display on.
Leave a record
Keep the scope sheet with photos of each elevation, the spacing, the bulb color temperature and the clip used on each edge. Next season it becomes the reorder list and the install map for the crew.
Questions
What clip holds C9 lights on a storefront parapet?
It depends on the cap. O-clips and all-in-one clips grip a lip or gutter edge. Magnet clips hold to steel coping, metal canopies and steel-framed signs without fasteners. Ridge clips straddle peaked entry roofs.
What spacing should a retail center use?
12 in. for storefronts seen from the sidewalk, 15 in. for buildings set back behind parking, and 24 in. socket wire for very long edges seen from the road. Keep one spacing per elevation so each building reads as a single line.
Which kit size fits a strip center?
Total the footage of every lit edge. A small strip often fits a 1,000 ft. kit; a full center or several buildings usually needs a 2,000 or 4,000 ft. kit, or 1,000 ft. socket spools with bulb cases cut to each elevation.
How do I power lights where there's no outdoor outlet?
Run lamp cord with slide-on plugs from the nearest GFCI-protected circuit to the start of the run. Plan circuits before ordering so the plug and cord count is right.
How do separate buildings switch on together?
Put a photocell timer on each circuit and set the same on-hours. Each one turns on at dusk, so every building on the property lights at the same time.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is free on all orders to the contiguous United States, with no order minimum.
When will my order ship?
Every order ships the same day it's placed, whatever time you order. There's no cutoff.
Should I choose 12 in. or 15 in. spacing?
12 in. spacing gives a tighter, brighter line and is common on single-story homes and anything viewed up close. 15 in. spacing uses about 20% fewer bulbs for the same footage and is common on larger homes and commercial rooflines viewed from a distance.
What's in a C9 installation kit?
Kits combine C9 socket wire at the listed length and spacing with LED C9 bulbs to fill the sockets, slide-on plugs to finish the runs and clips to mount them. The options list on each kit shows the bulb colors and clip mix available.
Which clip do I need?
All-in-one clips fit shingles and gutters. Ridge clips mount along roof peaks. Tile and extended fascia clips are for tile roofs and deep fascia boards. Magnet clips hold to metal surfaces, and light stakes place C9 or C7 bulbs along walkways and beds.
What are sun warm, warm, pure and cool white?
They describe color temperature. Sun warm white (about 2600–2800K) is the most amber, closest to incandescent. Warm white (about 2800–3200K) is the traditional soft white. Pure white (about 4000–4200K) is neutral, and cool white (5900K and up) has a blue tint.
